Your Spring Plumbing Maintenance Checklist

Spring is already here, it is time to do more than just cleaning. This season is also the best time to evaluate and maintain your plumbing system. Regular maintenance can help to decrease the chances of serious problems with your system and prevent costly damage from the repair services. Here is your spring plumbing maintenance checklist:

Check for some Piping Leaks

Take a good look at your faucets for leaks. If you find a leak, install new fixtures or repair it immediately to prevent more damage and increase your water bill.

Check for Toilet Leaks

Look for leaks in your bowls and tank. If everything seems good, place a half dozen drops of food dye into the tank. If there is color in the bowl after an hour, your system has a leak and needs to be checked immediately by a professional.

Maintain Your Water Heater

Make it a certain to your water heater that is set no higher than 120 degrees. For safety reasons, move any items around your water heater unit. This may also increase the efficiency of your water heater.

Check Appliances

Check your water supply hoses for leaks or bulging in your appliances like your dishwasher, washing machine, or ice maker. If the hoses are showing weak, replace them immediately. Use stainless steel hoses that are more durable, reliable, and less prone to wear and tear like any other hoses.

Test Out Sump Pump

Make sure your sump pump is operating properly and effectively. If you have any issues with your unit, it needs an immediate response from the professional.

Outdoor Plumbing and Draining

Do not forget to go outside and check on pipes and drains that surround your home. Make sure your drains, gutters, or downspouts are clear from any debris possible. Look for anything blocking your vents. Check exterior faucets to make sure the water is flowing properly and no piping that needs to be replaced.

Once you have done this checklist, you are off to a good start to ensuring your plumbing system is healthy and ready for the springtime and summertime. If you do not find something wrong and yet you feel uncomfortable assessing or fixing, please feel free to call Target Plumbers for help!
